Pritong Tilapia
Pritong Tilapia is a classic Filipino dish made from whole tilapia fish that is simply seasoned, usually with salt, and deep-fried until golden brown and crispy. It is known for its crunchy skin and tender, flavorful meat inside. This dish is popular because of its simplicity, affordability, and delicious taste.
The Preparation
Season the fish
Thoroughly rub salt all over the tilapia, including the inside cavity, to enhance flavor.
Heat the oil
Pour oil into a wide frying pan and heat it until it becomes hot enough for frying.
Start frying the fish
Carefully place the tilapia into the hot oil. Cover the pan slightly, leaving a small opening to allow steam to escape.
Cook evenly on both sides
Fry the fish over medium heat for about 6 to 10 minutes per side until fully cooked.
Check for crispiness
Wait until the sizzling sound reduces or stops—this indicates that most of the moisture is gone and the fish is crispy.
Remove and plate
Take the fried tilapia out of the pan and arrange it neatly on a serving plate.
Serve and enjoy
Serve the crispy tilapia with your preferred condiments and side dishes.
